Natalie Goldberg in the introduction to her book Old Friend from Far Away: The Practice of Writing Memoir writes:

"Memoir...It is the study of memory, structured on the meandering way we remember."

Phyllis Theroux's new book The Journal Keeper sounds like a fascinating foray into both her habit of keeping a journal and her development as a mature writer.

Her article "Why We Write" is featured in this month's Poets and Writers Literary Life.

I love the way she states the arduous process of finding the right words ...

"The practice of writing, of laboring long hours to buckle words around an idea..."
