When I decided to take part in the Global Reading Challenge 2010, I discovered that many writers I wanted to read either weren't translated into English or only a sparse few books were translated. I learn about a culture when I read a book, a story, written by a member of that culture—not an outsider.

We're being shortchanged. Even when the book has been published my library consortium hasn't added it to their shelves.

Yes, I'm aware of the economics—too few books of literary fiction sell.
Perhaps —another market for ebooks?

So I check with the latest Words Without Borders newsletter to, at least, become familiar with new voices.
